The NPR obtains (pulls) the permit; then either faxes or mails a copy to the builder or drops the permit off to the builder. The best part of this job? You get paid IMMEDIATELY!

This course is Nationwide and the duration of the course work depends on your rate of study. You can go as fast or be as detailed as you like and you can always return to review or look up information.

  1. What supplies are needed to perform the duties of this role in TX? Would the runner notarize the plans upon delivery or acknowledge signature of artichect? If not, why wouldn’t the builder hire a courier to do the same thing?

  2. In response to Covid, many gov’t buildings are shut down and have moved to mail/internet only. Has Permit running been effected by the transition to mail?

    • Currently, each jurisdiction may have its own guidelines on documentation, and other qualifications of the contractors. This is a great course for getting started with this area of income.

    • I have spoken to several notaries around the country that only do the permit running. This part of the notary business is like all the other parts of the notary business you can get involved in (general notary work, notary signing agent, etc.) It depends on your own efforts on how research and marketing in your area on how successful you will be.

  5. This program is not specifying all fees to complete the certification process? I see so many are asking questions but the only response is a link to begin the course. These questions need answers as the response will determine if this is an ideal path to take. Please shares all fees relevant to completing the Permit Runner Certification in Texas. Thanks.

  6. Hello Daniel, my name is Samuel Jordan and I’ve been reading all the comments and it gets me excited that it can actually be done. I’m in Spokane Washington, and I will definitely take your course, but I would like to pick your brain a little. And can you do this as a side hustle.

  7. I live near Spring Hill, FL and am interested in this course. I have business acquaintances in the portable shed, metal building business, that brought this type of service to my attention and sounds like a good way to make extra money and possibly turn into more.

  8. Hi, currently I am an NSA, mobile notary and bail bondsman in Missouri. I’m interested in this course to add to my resume. My father owned his own excavating business for 45 years and several family members are builders and contractors. Is this a formidable option in Missouri? This is the first I’m hearing about this.

    • Catherine,

Thanks for the great questions. The profitability of contracting work will depend on each individual contractor’s ability, just like in other contracting work. Some areas have opportunities to take advanced courses but not all. A lot of notaries around the country have made a pretty good living after taking this course. Definitely check with your local laws in your state.
